In Norse mythology, Idun was the goddess of fertility, and was responsible for guarding the apples that ensured the gods eternal youth. To many, she was also a symbol of love and rebirth, and in a famous poem she was referred to as the lover of the gods (ása leika).
The NL5 Idun (CoS), unlike the previous models in the Northern Light series, is a little rounder and softer in shape and as such is perfectly suited to hunting. The straight, lightly padded leather grip gives full control over the powerful blade.
The blade consists of a laminated CoS steel with the edge made of the now famous Cobalt Special steel and the sides made of a tough, stainless 420J2 steel. In general, this means that you get a much more solid edge that holds its sharpness better, along with increased protection against corrosion. This combination is good because it brings together all the possible desirable properties such as stress resistance, torsional stiffness and sharpening duration in one blade. A 5 mm thick blade is in itself strong enough for most purposes. With laminate technology, you can expect an additional 20% increase in bending strength compared to a solid blade.
The well-made leather handle darkens with age, acquiring a beautiful patina through use.
The knife comes with a black high quality leather sheath for right hand use.
